Located on the grounds of Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, SC, Fort Jackson Golf Club offers two 18-hole courses, namely Old Hickory and Wildcat. While the course conditions could be improved, the layout and overall experience make it a worthwhile option for golfers seeking a convenient and enjoyable round of golf.
Fort Jackson Golf Club is an ideal choice for daily rounds, evening 9-hole games, or practice sessions. The facility features a fantastic practice area, complete with a large driving range, multiple chipping and putting greens, as well as practice bunkers.
Old Hickory, one of the two courses at Fort Jackson, boasts an impressive layout that offers a fun and engaging experience. The back nine, in particular, stands out with its scenic beauty as it winds its way through a lush forest adorned with tall pine trees. The course design is fairly forgiving, with generous fairways that are not overly tight or narrow. However, there are a few holes that present a greater challenge, adding variety to the round.
I love the layout of this course. The only thing holding it back from a rating in the mid 4’s is the condition of the greens and tee boxes. Some of them were lacking grass, dried up, or showing brown spots. Addressing this would significantly elevate the quality of the course for me.
Another factor to consider when planning a visit to Fort Jackson Golf Club is that access to the course requires a civilian golf pass. This pass can be obtained from the registration building near the front gate of the base.
In summary, Fort Jackson Golf Club – Old Hickory offers a convenient and enjoyable golfing experience in Columbia, SC. While the course conditions may leave room for improvement, the layout and overall design of the course, particularly the back nine, provide a fun and engaging round of golf. With its excellent practice facilities, this course is well-suited for daily play, short evening sessions, or dedicated practice sessions. Golfers considering a visit should be aware of the need to obtain a civilian golf pass to access the course.
